Cinque anni fa, il 2 dicembre, moriva John Mellor, ben più noto come Joe Strummer, cantante e vera anima del gruppo londinese The Clash.
Inutile ricordare l'importanza fondamentale di questo gruppo e l'influenza ed il fascino che ha esercitato su decine e decine di gruppi e migliaia, forse milioni, di persone, Infuenza e fascino che durano ancora oggi.
Ma sopratutto per molti The Clash (o i Clash per dirla all'italiana)sono stati qualcosa (molto) di più che un gruppo musicale da apprezzare.
I Clash sono stati un'idea, sopratutto, forse l'ultima idea vera nella musica Pop. Sono stati l'ultima incarnazione dell'idea di Woody Guthrie, che una chitarra possa ammazzare il fascismo, il razzismo, l'ingiustizia, insomma possa cambiare il mondo.
Questa idea, nonostante tutto, vive ancora, come testimonia il fatto che qualche giorno fa a Milano, in molti si sono ritrovati a ricordare Joe, cosa che accadrà ancora Londra e chissà in quanti altri posti.
In attesa che esca anche in Italia il documentario di Julian Temple The future is Unwritten che ripercorre la storia di Joe e del suo gruppo, lo ricordo con questa cover di un altro grandissimo della musica: Mister Bob Marley
